We were thinking of skipping flower season for once, but with all the rain this winter we changed our mind. However, rather than booking a long weekend in Nieuwoudtville, we wanted to try a shorter version: Stay in a CapeNature hut at Pakhuis Pass and take the back roads towards Nieuwoudtville for a day trip only, then go hiking in the Cederberg for the second day.

Initially, the weather forecast got us a bit worried and indeed, the nights on the pass required plenty of firewood. But in the end the clouds lifted in time for the drive and the warm sun made the flowers pop. At the tail end of an unusually wet winter we found so much flower displays on the way that we only made it to Papkuisfountain before it was time to turn around.
